This month join us at the Tucker Maxon School!
In 1947, teacher Alice Maxon declared “deaf people can learn to talk,” and with a financial investment from philanthropist Max Tucker, she and five families establish a school teaching exactly that. Today, Tucker Maxon School’s mission is to teach deaf and hearing children to listen, talk, learn, and achieve excellence together. The crux of our mission is to empower children to thrive when they move on to middle school and beyond. We accomplish that by ensuring that every child — regardless of ability — has been given the communication and literacy tools they need to prosper in the classroom as well as the social resiliency to thrive through adolescence. In a mainstream school environment, Tucker Maxon provides wraparound services to deaf and hard of hearing children, including speech-language pathology, clinical audiology, and teachers of the deaf. Students have regular access to these services that would otherwise be intermittent and require extra time out of the classroom.
