The Sandra K. McDonough Leadership Award, is given to a woman business leader, based on their organizational vision, mentorship and support of other women in the business community, and overall level of community engagement.
Since taking the reins of All Classical Radio in 2017, Suzanne Nance has turned the network into a statewide radio powerhouse. Under her leadership, All Classical launched The International Children’s Arts Network to increase access to the arts for younger listeners, as well as The Recording Inclusivity Initiative, dedicated to recording works by composers historically underrepresented in classical music. In 2023, Suzanne moved the organization’s headquarters into downtown Portland and she is currently spearheading All Classical Radio’s $10m capital campaign to build a new media arts center at KOIN Tower.
Company awards are decided based on programs and activities in place that foster the advancement of women. The awards committee examines how this is demonstrated in the organizational chart and/or reflected in the make-up of the company’s board of directors, as well as how the company is seen as a corporate culture changer in the community.
The Timbers have prioritized leadership training opportunities for women–particularly BIPOC women–while also putting into place practices to ensure pay equity across the organization. In January 2023, the Portland Timbers appointed Heather Davis as the Chief Executive Officer, making her one of only five women in the MLS to oversee club business operations.
