With its food trucks, independent shops, local makers, and startups, Portland is a hub for small business activity. While many Portlanders are committed to the shop local mentality, small businesses struggle against a range of regulatory, policy, and institutional challenges.
What if it wasn’t this way? How could the small business ecosystem grow with the right policy supports? How many businesses would emerge and thrive if the city addressed the policy barriers to entrepreneurialism?
In this breakfast forum, we'll explore the current state of the small business ecosystem. We’ll present the findings from our newest report on the small business ecosystem, sponsored by Comcast. While assessing the economic outlook for and highlighting trends within the ecosystem, we'll also discuss the barriers faced by these smaller enterprises.
A panel discussion of reflections from prominent community business leaders will follow.
During the discussion, we'll assess Portland's support of the small business community and identity additional approaches that could help the industry thrive.
